Review: CISCO LINKSYS E2000

The cable-only E2000 may look similar to the pricier E3000, but it’s a much more basic model. In fact, in price terms and features it competes more closely with the top-value Edimax BR-6475nD.

It packs in just as much as that router, too. There are four Gigabit Ethernet ports at the rear, alongside its single WAN port; and when it comes to the all-important wireless networking side of things, there’s dual-band support.

There is a catch, however. Unlike the Edimax, this router isn’t capable of hosting concurrent 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks; instead, you have to choose between one or the other. So, if you want both 2.4GHz and 5GHz support you’ll have to buy two, or keep your old router and run the E2000 exclusively in 5GHz mode. Add poor performance at range, plus a lack of USB sharing support, and it lacks appeal.
