FUJIFILM FinePix 4800Zoom

It serves a real purpose considering many holiday happy-snappers will prefer an easy shot from the hip.

When we first picked up the 4800 we saw there was no place for our other hand. With other small entry level cameras like Panasonics DMC F7 this might be bad, however Fujifilms higher end model is actually designed for one-handed operation. As such, all buttons are within one standard thumb length from the right with the shutter release located where the index finger falls. This is far more than a cosmetic addition: it serves a real purpose considering many holiday happy-snappers will prefer an easy shot from the hip.

A clean, simple and intuitive interface works perfectly to navigate through the various features and menus available. A bright LCD display shows crucial information usually reserved for the larger, and more power-hungry TFT display. As such, the TFT display can stay switched off for the most part, and used only for preview mode.

Our tests showed good brightness and colour, however our overall result was unfortunately on the average side of the pack. If quality is what you're after, and youve got a tight budget, the 4800 is not the camera for you. On the other hand (pun intended) this camera is a Labs favourite thanks in no small part to its unique top interface design.
