If you're sick of all the iPad 2 hype, ViewSonic may have the alternative you're looking for in the form of the Viewpad 10s.
ViewSonic is the latest technology vendor to enter the 'plus-sized' tablet market with the release of the ViewPad 10s. It joins the Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and HP TouchPad as the newest tablet to take a stab at the Apple iPad's crown.
As its name implies, the ViewPad 10s boasts a 10in LED-backlit touch screen capable of supporting high-resolution 1080p video.
Living up to its ‘entertainment lifestyle’ moniker, the ViewPad 10s comes equipped with plenty of multimedia functionality, including Full HD video support, inbuilt Wi-Fi, Adobe Flash 10.1, 3D speakers, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and oodles of connectivity (HDMI, USB, MicroSD Card, SIM).
The inclusion of USB and MicroSD is especially noteworthy: two ports that were conspicuously absent from the iPad 2. Like the iPad 2, the ViewSonic ViewPad 10s can be connected to a HDTV via a HDMI cable, allowing you to view content, play games and surf the web on your television screen.
Despite claiming to be “ultra slim and sleek”, the ViewPad 10s is a pretty hefty tablet device. It weighs 730g and measuring 255.5x177.8x19.1mm, which is significantly larger than the iPad 2.
We've yet to test VewSonic's ViewPad 10s. Their previous tablet, the ViewSonic Viewpad 7 wasn't particularly impressive. Hopefully this 10 inch iteration will provide a better user experience.
The ViewSonic ViewPad 10s is available in Australia now, with an RRP of $599.
