Tablet battle: Apple kicks up stink over Samsung tablet

The rise of iPad alternatives has hit a raw nerve with Apple, and Samsung's in the firing line.

For some users we speak to, one of the appealing things about Android tablets is that they're different to the iPad.

So news that Apple has prevented sales of an Android tablet because of an alleged patent infringement is interesting to say the least.

We were expecting to be at the media launch of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on August 11. However a court injunction means that the Samsung device can't be imported, advertised or sold in Australia for the time being. iTnews reports that is unlikely to change before August 29.

The case follows previous legal stoushes overseas, including a battle with HTC over the design of its smartphones.

Earlier this year Apple also named the Samsung Galaxy S II in an overseas lawsuit alleging patent infringement.

The iPad 2

Among the patents referred to by Apple is one involving the method for unlocking the device using the touchscreen.
