Now that's what we call good bang for buck!
Well here's a thing - it's looking like certain Ryzen 5 1600X processors, which are specced to run with just six cores, are capable of running with an extra two cores operating!
The extra performance has been spotted by observant Reddit users, who spotted that their 1600X's were running with 16 threads right after startup. And that means eight cores, for the price of six - not bad!
We're unsure why this is happening - could be mobo firmware, according to Guru3D, could just be an improperly binned die, or simply a processor that wasn't quite up to AMD's spec, but that operates just fine in the wild.
It seems to be on when and where the processors were assembled, so if you want to see if you've lucked out, there's a guide to checking your batch code on Reddit here.
