Find Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet and watch yourself transform into the purple villain.
The epic update that sees Fortnite, the biggest game in the world, and the box office-smashing Avengers: Infinity War come together for one immense crossover is finally here! For a limited time, the purple baddie, Thanos, will be appearing in the game, and you could play as him if you manage to nab his Infinity Gauntlet.
Here's how it works. Early in the match, a meteor will fall somewhere in the storm's safe zone, dropping the Infinity Gauntlet. Any player that manages to grab the gauntlet will transform into Thanos and gain his super powers. He will have four abilities: the ability to punch through structures and knock enemies back, harness energy from the Power stone to fire blasts, jump high over tall structures, and the ability to fly towards the ground to deal knockback damage. In other words, you'll be pretty damn powerful. As well as that, Thanos has a regenerative shield that will stop you from taking full damage.
If you do get the gauntlet, however, you won't be able to use weapons or launch pads or even build structures. Additionally, only Rare, Epic and Legendary weapons will be spawning on the map, and treasure chests, ammo boxes and launch pads will be appearing more frequently to help other players take Thanos down.
If Thanos is killed, the Infinity Gauntlet will drop to the ground for someone else to take. If the gauntlet sits unused for too long, it will despawn until another meteor appears somewhere else. You can read the full patch notes on the official Fortnite blog.
"Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War,we'd take breaks to hop on and get in a few games," Avengers: Infinity War's co-director, Joe Russo told EW. "Then we started thinking how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers-Fornite mashup?"
After chatting to Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games, the two started brainstorming possible ideas.
"It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about," Mustard said. "About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started."
