Local dev Firemint is hoping to reach new heights with its upcoming Flight Control HD release on the Playstation 3.
Local game development company, Firemint, has announced that their hugely successful Flight Control game will be making its first ever home console debut on Sony's Playstation 3 and will support the new motion controller peripheral, Playstation Move.
The Playstation Network port, Flight Control HD, is slated to make a smooth landing in both Europe and Asia on September 15 to coincide with the Move's retail release. Australian gamers eager to get their hands on the game won't have to wait long, as both the game and Move peripherals will hit our shores the very next day.
Not keen on taking the motion controller plunge? Well you're in luck as the developer has told us the game will support both Move and the DUALSHOCK 3 controllers, so everyone can get their Flight Control on.
Flight Control originally launched in the App store in March of 2009 and has since gone on to become one of the biggest selling games ever on the platform.
In the game, players must guide aircrafts safely to their landing zones by altering their flight paths as needed to avoid mid-air collisions. The simple, yet addictive, gameplay style immediately struck a chord with pocket gamers all over the world.
Flight Control was the first game to cross the million-sold mark and holds the record for the fastest million-selling game on the App store to date. It has since gone on to sell over 2 million copies and spawned dozens of clones. The game also received critical praise and constantly tops 'must have app' lists from major publications and websites across the globe.
Firemint has since looked to expand the franchise on other platforms, with versions appearing on Blackberry, Windows Mobile and the Nintendo DS digital distribution platform, DSiWare. An Android version of the game is also planned. The Playstation Network debut marks the studio's first entry into the home console market.
The Melbourne-based studio has enjoyed enormous success on the iOS platform, with the small independent studio's other release, Real Racing, also selling over a million copies.
