God of War will allow for some HUD control

Giving tweaking power to players continues to be a trend this console generation.

Sony hasn't been shy about showing off God of War (which is hardly surprising - it looks spectacular), and apparently as a result of this people have started asking questions about the heads-up display.

In a new developer post, Santa Monica has clarified that God of War will include an optional 'immersion mode' that will strip back screen icons to the absolute bare essentials, which the team sees as great not just for those who want a clutter-free experience, but also for getting spiffy screenshots or streaming the game for an audience.

And just to add a little extra player control, there will also be an option to play effectively HUD free, except that a tap of the touch pad will bring up the display for a short time.

This is, in its own small way, pretty neat stuff. It's also one we're sure will benefit Sony when the company makes some kind of contest out of getting people to share screenshots that makes its game look incredible.
