Conclave brings classic dungeon-bashing to your browser

It's a little less ambitious than Obsidian's Kickstarter powered epic, but Conclave is looking like a mess of old-school, 2D fun.

For veterans of classic DnD roleplaying, the developers of Conclave - a new co-op RPG designed to run just about anywhere, both in real-time and turn-based modes - have possibly the most evocative imaginable. The two man team at 10x10 Room came up from tabletop and online RPGs, but were faced with a common problem - getting the time to get a group of players together for a racially motivated home invasion.

Nick Branstator and Derek Bruneau's answer to the problem was to create Conclave. Currently in a free and open beta phase, the top-down, art-driven RPG is also in a Kickstarter drive to generate the funds to continue working on the game. With only six days to go, the team is a shade under half way to its modest $75,000 goal.

"My co-creator Derek and I have long been fans of tabletop and online multiplayer RPGs, but work, family, and our other interests have made it a challenge to schedule the blocks of time they often require," Nick told us via email. "Unable to find a good alternative, we decided to create a game that would feature tabletop-inspired aesthetics, gameplay, and story but not force players to plan their lives around it. Conclave is the result."

You can learn more about the game here, and get into the beta, while the Conclave Kickstarter can be found here.
