Apple will fix reboot issue in iOS 7

Apple says it's working on a solution for bug that causes white or black "screen of death" on iPhones.

Apple has confirmed it's working to fix a bug in iOS 7 that reboots the iPhone, bringing up a white or black "screen of death".

The bug forces the smartphone to restart, and displays a boot-up screen with the Apple logo in the centre. According to Mashable, the screen background depends on the colour of the handset: white iPhones get a white boot screen, for example.

"We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a homescreen crash," Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller told Mashable.

Apple users have been reporting the flaw online since iOS 7's release in September.

"Six years of using an iPhone and I've seen a full crash/reboot maybe twice," said one user over Twitter. "Since iOS 7 came out, it's been 3 to 4 times per week. Both 5 and 5s models."

An Apple Support forum started in September kicks off with a user complaining that their iPhone restarted three times in two days after installing iOS 7, and was followed by a chorus of other iPhone owners experiencing similar issues.

"Ever since I installed iOS 7, the phone shuts off for a few minutes and nothing can be done to bring it back," said one user. "Although holding the power and home brings it back faster. It's annoying since it happens when I need the phone."

It wasn't clear from the report when the update would arrive, but Apple this week released the fourth beta for iOS 7.1.
