Apple has released iTunes 10.2 for Windows and Mac. Its primary function is to extend compatibility to iOS 4.3 devices like the iPad and iPhone 4. This also includes improved support for Home Sharing, which is extended to allow iOS 4.3 devices streaming access to a computer’s iTunes library.U

iTunes 10.2 also includes a number of security fixes for Windows users relating to ImageIO, libxml and WeUbKit.

Home Sharing was introduced in iTunes 9 to allow up to five computers on the same network to access the audio and video content on each other’s iTunes libraries through streaming. The iOS 4.3 update allied with the iTunes 10.2 update will now allow compatible devices – including the iPad, iPhone 4 and latest iPod touches – to access content from a computer’s iTunes library in the same way.

The iTunes 10.2 announcement was overshadowed by yesterday’s launch of the iPad 2 and the associated announcement of the iOS 4.3 update, both of which will be available from 11th March in the US. iOS 4.3 will be available for all iPads plus the iPhone 3Gs/4 and third- and fourth-generation iPod touches.

iTunes 10.2 is available for both Windows and Mac OS X computers: it requires Windows XP or later, or Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later.
