Foxtel iQ2

Foxtel iQ2

The iQ2 features an impressive four TV tuners - but you can only record two programs at once. Eventually you'll be able to record two whilst watching a third channel, with the fourth tuner reserved for trickling down on-demand movies.

Apple iPhone 3G

Apple iPhone 3G

The iPhone 3G is truly an impressive device, although those familiar with its predecessor will lament the lack of features such as MMS, cut and paste and tethering (using the phone as a wireless modem for a notebook) - all features found on most other smartphones. The camera has remained at a measly two megapixels, with no option for video capture or video calls.

First Look: Sandisk’s Sansa Fuze drops the bomb on Nano

The 4GB Sansa Fuze handles music, videos, FM radio and voice recording with kickass usability, giving apple devotees a good exuse to ditch their nano’s and embrace the joy of drag and drop.
Linksys WRT310N Ultra RangePlus

Linksys WRT310N Ultra RangePlus

There are no feng shui-disrupting antennas sprouting from the WRT310N, and at just 34mm high at its thickest point you could even hide it under the sofa. You’ll need to hope for a similarly-stylish look from your modem, though, as the WRT310N has a WAN port but no integrated ADSL hardware.
Brother MFC-885CW

Brother MFC-885CW

Brother certainly wants its multifunction devices to be all things to all users. Not content with merely printing and scanning, the MFC-885CW also includes an Ethernet port, a DECT handset, 802.11b/g wireless, an ADF and a pair of paper trays. Throw in the 6-in-1 card reader, PictBridge-compatible USB port and fax machine and the indisputably high asking price of $365 initially looks like very good value for money.

Canon PowerShot A470, A580, and A590IS

Canon’s efforts to swamp the planet under five feet of compact cameras continues with its latest batch of PowerShot models, including the ridicuously cheap $149 A470.

Olympus Tough MJU 1030SW and Olympus MJU 1020

The market for compact digital cameras is a busy place, and Olympus’s two new 10.1 megapixel models will have to work hard to make an impact. The Olympus Tough mju 1030SW is immediately striking – clad in tough-looking metal and weighing in at a hefty 173g before the battery is installed – it looks hardy. The the Olympus mju 1020 weighs in at nearly $100 cheaper and nearly 40g lighter without a battery.
Pioneer DreamBook IL1

Pioneer DreamBook IL1

The Pioneer DreamBook IL1 is being pushed as an "Eee PC killer" - one look and it's impossible not to make the comparison between this and the pint-sized ASUS marvel.
The killer is the price, starting at $499, which sounds great until you realise that's only the starting point. We built up a basic IL1 on the Pioneer site with 40GB HDD, 1GHz CPU, a 7in screen, and the total came to $609, putting this much closer to the current gen of Eee machines.
SpaceNavigator & SpaceExplorer

SpaceNavigator & SpaceExplorer

The SpaceNavigator is essentially a small circular base with a chunky joystick you use to navigate in ways an ordinary mouse can't. Instead of just panning up, down, left, and right, the SpaceNavigator moves in "3D" , by tilting, rotating, pressing in/out, and shifting left/right and up/down.

Photos: Nokia N810 WiMAX, is this the future of mobiles?

The big news among the latest crop of mobiles this week at CITA is the appearance of actual, real-life WiMAX mobiles like this Nokia N810. Like WiFi, WiMAX gives you wireless Internet, but at much greater range and speeds. The N810 certainly looks slick, though it's a lot clunkier than a mobile. Still the absence of Vista makes these an interesting alternative to UMPCs.
