We know the statistics,we know the features.

But which ones ACTUALLY Work?

These test's are done in Virtual Box,after every Anti-Virus program is tested, windows is re-installed and the tests are conducted again.

Quote:
Test 1: Downloading 4 Infected files from a Popular P2P Service (A mix of adware, spyware and virus)

Test 2: Downloading 5 Viruses from VX Heaven (worms/trojans)

Now How did i know that the set of files i was downloading from Frostwire were infected? I Simply downloaded Zip files that had the name of a well known program, but were too small to ever be that program!

The Files i used in these tests:
(NOT EXCACT FILE NAMES)
Avast Pro.zip
Norton 2009.zip
Photoshop CS3.zip
Antivirus.zip

Let's begin!

Test 1

I Had downloaded all of the files and were ready to start unzipping and running! Now,AVG and Avast picked the viruses up even before they were unzipped, though avast did miss one BUT did pick it up when i was trying to install it (Adware). Now the others (Except Clamwin) picked them all upe, except the adware.

So,All in all,

AVG:4/4
Avira:3/4
Avast:4/4
Comodo:3/4
Spyware Terminator:3/4

Now for the ones that missed the adware,i tested even further to see what would happen if i tried to install it.

As i was installing the adware,Avast blocked it from downloading and installing.lastly Avira didnt do a thing!

Comodo kept on popping up telling what it's doing, yet it still hasnt told my it's dangerous! The Average person would just click ok...

Now about 30 of these popups came up,until installation was complete, and Comodo still hadnt realised it was virus, now my computer was as slow as anything! As for Avira,it didnt do a thing when i was installing it!

Test 2

Now,the first thing i noticed with AVG,

It was approving the very site im going to get viruses from!

Yet spyware terminator was on the ball and warned me!

Ok,I Downloaded 5 Worms from this website,Even before the files were downloaded, avast picked them up,it did let a few through though, but as i unzipped them it deleted them straight away!

As i unzipped them, comodo was on the ball and picked up all 5.Whereas all the others (Except Spyware Terminator) picked up 4 of the 5!

Now Spyware Terminator on the other hand picked up 2 of the 5! What would happend what when i ran the 3 it didnt pick up?

I Restarted my computer and it was running VERY Slow!

Yep,It had also disabled my Task manager!

Even though my computer was still useable,it was VERY Slow!

Avast: 5/5
AVG: 4/5
Avira: 4/5
Comodo 5/5
Spyware Terminator: 2/5

Conclusion

In a conclusion AVG and Avast had equal hit rates.Though Avast does have more features such as anti-rootkit and email scanning and Avast uses less system resources aswell.

So,Number 1 must go to Avast Applause

In Second is AVG Applause

Now Third Goes to Comodo, although i would only recomend it too advanced users.

Now as far as Avira andSpyware Terminator goes - I Wouldnt Recomened them.

On an ending note,no matter what kind of anti virus software you have or how experienced you are at computers, you will always get a virus here and there.Hackers are always finding new ways to get your information or play games with your computers,so when downloading off the internet, always verify what you are downloading first before running it by doing a virus scan of it first.

NEVER Download software from P2P Programs (Such as limewire and frostwire) no matter what it is,most of the time it will be a virus.

Yup, Avast is great anti-virus software. Low resources, great protection, free. Can't get much better than that. Smile
