Here's the situation,

You've just bought a new PVP,you load up the software for it onto your computer,and low and behold,it didnt come with a video converter! Maybe you purchased an Iphone? And iTunes wont convert your video!

You rush over to google,and no matter what 'free' video converters you try,they either dont work or arent really free,they simply limit the video length to 3 minutes! Well,Those days are over!

Now when i first discovered the media coder website,i was slightly sceptical about it.It all sounded too good to be true,here's the description from the webpage:

Quote:
MediaCoder is a free universal batch media transcoder, which nicely integrates most popular audio/video codecs and tools into an all-in-one solution. With a flexible and extendable architecture, new codecs and tools are added in constantly as well as supports for new devices. MediaCoder intends to be the swiss army knife for media transcoding in all time and at this moment, it already has millions of users from 170+ countries all over the planet.

Supported Fomats

* MP3, Vorbis, AAC, AAC+, AAC+v2, MusePack, Speex, AMR, WMA, RealAudio, mp3PRO*
* FLAC, WavPack, Monkey's Audio, OptimFrog, AAC Lossless, TTA, WAV/PCM, Waveform
* H.264, XviD, DivX, MPEG 1/2/4, Theora, Flash Video, Dirac, 3ivx*, RealVideo*, Windows Media Video
* AVI, MPEG/VOB, Matroska, MP4, PMP, RealMedia*, ASF, Quicktime*, OGM*
* CD, DVD, VCD, SVCD, CUESheet*, HTTP*, FTP*, RTSP*, UDP*

* supported as input only

So i decided to try it for myself! After a pretty much painless installation,i ran the program! Now at first i was lost,as a website popped up and i simply closed it and wondered where the flip did my program go? Low and behold though,it was hiding in my task bar.

Once you double click on that small icon,the main program pops up.At first all the settings and whatnot can be daunting! Although,once you get to know what settings you need,it's as easy as,well,breathing!

Now Media coder gives you the option of selecting files,a folder ,a url,an RSS Feed and one of the best features,A Disc! Yes media coder does DVD's (more on this later)!

Once you have added your media,you can either set the settings that you want manually,or you can use one of the many 'extensions' that it comes with! What this does,is it automatically changes all the settings depending on what device you selected! It supports a wide range of devices from PS3's to Zune's! If you can't find your device there,you can even make your own extension with a bit of XML Knowledge!

One thing which i really like with this program is the fact it's fast,it will convert your average 90 minute DVD in 1 to 2 hours! Also,When used in conjunction with DVD43,you can rip your copy protected DVD's as well!

If you want a handy guide on DVD Ripping using this program,please see my guide HERE.

I Would recomend this program to anyone!

Pro's:

It's free!
It does DVD's!
The Output quality is great!
Supports ALOT of Media

Con's:
UI Can be daunting
The fact it starts in your taskbar gets annoying.
