Hey

Recently I got a Netgear CG814WG Cable Modem/ Router from Optus because I thought it would be conveinient to have both of them in the same device thus saving space. I have since discovered that it doesn't have very good range. Hence I bought a Apple Airport Extreme to act as my router and a Apple Express to extend the network.

Now I've run into some problems I've plugged the Apple Airport Extreme into the CG814WG via ethernet (with the Extreme WAN port being filled) and then set it up as a wireless network. I haven't turned of DCHP Server on the CG814WG because everytime I did nothing could access the internet. Now once I set up the network and use the Express to extend the network everything works fine, provided I plug the computers into the ethernet port of either the Extreme or the Express. HOWEVER when I connect to wireless the iMac works fine but the Vista laptop gives me a limited or no connectivity. I have been told that I should turn DCHP Server off on the modem however I get no internet

anyone able to help me or have friends to help me at all?

Hey bb, this is a common and very tough one to fix see this post, I would suggest getting a repeater from netgearand ditch the apple air port extreme. The first post as a few links for some fixes to try.

No go I spent heaps of money on the Extreme and The only reason why I got it is because the study room is like 10 walls between the Extreme so I bought a Express to extend the network. The iMac works FINE. Please note the iMAc connects wirelessly just fine. And the Laptop worked fine the very first time I set it all up. like fine for like 6-8 hours. Once it shutdown is when there were problems

ok that's fair enough! when you turn off DHCP off the imac no longer connects to the internet but does the vista machine connect to the internet?

OK BB, the dhcp server on your router supplies an IP address to your AAE. The dhcp server on the AAE in turn farms out IP addresses to everything that connects to it, including the express. The express in turn should have (I think) a dhcp server to farm out IP addresses to devices connecting through it.
I suspect that you'll need to tell the Vista machine to use the ssid and channel of the express router as first preference with the extreme as second preference.
This is all based on my experience with setting up my home wireless network so may be way off the mark for your set up.
oh yeh, and if you haven't already disabled wireless on the CG814WG I'd suggest you do. one less device spewing radio waves into the area to cause potential interference.

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

I would turn of the NAT in the router and see if you get your network connection back ... if it does you need to change something in your nat - maybe a ip range your DCHP is using with an allow flag... consult your routers manual.
