I've been recently thinking of upgrading my system lately as im still using a Celeron single core and a 7300 GS Graphic cards. I'm gonna buy crysis soon and need upgrades badly.

I'm going to get an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 processor and I'm still wanting to keep my DDR2 RAM. Also I need a MotherBoard that can support tri-SLI.

I've been reading around the Internet and the pcauthority mags But being kinda a noob to pc's I can't understand if high end Nvidia Boards support DDR3 and DDR2 or only DDR3

These are my list of choices
ASUS Striker II Extreme
MSI K9N2 Diamond
NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI
NVIDIA nForce 790i SLI
NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI
NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI

I honestly have no clue which ones to get and even if i could run them with DDR2 RAM HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!

I'd be looking at the 'EVGA 780i FTW' http://www.evga.com/articles/420.asp

Also, what speed are your current RAM modules at?

If your asking what RAM i have right now i have 1.5G of DDR2 RAM

I have chatted with one of my friends and he said that the NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI
was a great motherboard I'd be putting 4G DDR2-800 RAM in if i got any of these boards though

Edit
I just took a look at that link Cyber and thats basicly the motherboard i want however i would like one that can has DDR3 support but i can use DDR2 in for now does that support it?

Unless you plan to overclock, just stick with DDR2. It's not worth the extra cost. Future proofing is limited anyway because of the upcoming Nehalem platform.

Unless you wanna overclock, the nVidia boards are about twice as expensive, half as reliable and offer no other performance benefit over an intel chipset. I personally have a 680i in one of my systems, it's dodgy as sin, crahses randomly all the time and often decides to forget it's BIOS for no reason

And tri-Sli is a seriously BAD idea! You should know that it's only supported by the most high end graphics cards, which will be rendered obsolete in about 4 - 6 months time anyways when the newest cards arrive, leaving you with a VERY expensive setup that will age incredibly quickly.

Think about it like this, if you invested in tri-sli when it first arrived, you'd have 3 x 8800GTX Ultra's ... which just look stupid next to a single or even SLI GTX280...

Personally, if you want to get good gameplay without breaking the budget, I'd go for a pair of 4870's in crossfire or a 4870X2 when they arrive.

OR!!! Hang off until the new intel chips arrive and start from there...lol

Despite the spiraling cost of living, it remains a popular activity.

I've done more reading around the internet and found the 790 Nvidia boards only use DDR3 while the 780 uses DDR2 so im proably gonna stick with that.

The next issue on pcauthority with the motherboard review should also be most helpful into making my choice
