I find myself to be quite computer literate, however last week encountered an issue that I had not seen before, and perhaps someone can help me understand what happened exactly... After having issues with my PC, I reverted to a ghost image and had to reinstall a whole lot of programs including my Wi-Fi cable software. I seemed to have everything back up and running, including internet, but could not get my emails to work, and could not access certain sites, including my own domain. After a couple of days on the phone to tech support of both my ISP and web hosting companies, I discovered that the ISP had blocked my IP address. The ISP could not tell me this, saying they would have to send out a tech person at a cost to me of $150!! But my hosting company was able to resolve the problem over the phone at no cost. The only difference now is that in my email settings, my outgoing server is now set to mail.mydomain.com, whereas it used to be mail.myISP.com. I have no idea why my ISP would have suddenly created these blockages, or why the problem still persists in some ways. Can anyone explain what happened or why it might have happened, so I can avoid a recurrence in the future?

I have seen similar issues between DODO and Bigpond. My customer had DODO at work and Bigpond at home. It would take up 5 days for a email to go from his work(DODO) to his home(Bigpond. After checking all his email setting both at home and work it turned out that Bigpond was blocking DODO as they had labelled them as a spammer ISP. There for the emails were held up till they eventually were forwarded on 5 days later with some appearing in his inbox 5 weeks later.
He was told that if he changed his work account to Bigpond there would be no issues. What the ?
I gather that you were having issues with the email addresses from you domain. For them to charge $150 to fix it is absolute rubbish as the issue is at the ISP hub not your PC. It is unfortunate that most ISP's do this in a vain attempt to stop spam. lol.
They forget we are the customers.

By centralizing and automating your IPAM, DNS and DHCP inventory, configuration and management functions, you benefit from a single, holistic perspective across your entire IP network. Administrator controls by container enable scoping of your topology based on hierarchy, geography, customer or block. This multilayered administrator control approach enables delegation of responsibilities across your organization and even provides your customers with options like read-only scoped access.you cn get the ip address from ip-details.com
