Hey everyone, Basically just wanted to know what people think of the Jolicloud OS for netbooks (see www.jolicloud.com) Ive been using for a couple of months now and have found very useful. In short - Its simple and easy to use - install new applications in a single click Great compatability - everything works out of the box (see 'supported hardware' part of website) Its fast - boots in 30 secs, instantly online, apps launch instantly Awsome networking - you can follow friends, people and see what apps they are installing Let me know what you think! So techcoolj, what have you been running it on?
Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

doesn't look much different to the ubuntu netbook remix to me...
just another flavour.
but a 30 sec boot, my aspire one wouldn't dream of booting UNR in that time...
If it can't be fixed with old fencing wire, buy some new fencing wire...

Slatts - i've been running it on a dell mini 9, havent encountered any real problems as yet which is good considering its still in alpha version. Do you currently own a netbook?
Krazikiwi - yer bout 30 secs. How long does UNR take you to boot?
I think im going to continue using this OS, it has everything i need plus heaps of other cool apps i never really knew about that i find really useful (alltop, documentary24, dropbox, fizy - jst to name a few)
You still need to apply for an invitation code in order to download the .iso file but apparently you can find them floating around on the net.

Gedday j, no, no netbook for Slatts yet. I'm typing this on an ancient Compaq Armad 1750 running win 98se and firefox 2.0. I resurrected it from a scrap heap a couple of years ago. I still get a good 40 min out of the battery... I've got a couple of desktops running XP pro, one of which has a pedigree similar to this laptop. The main reason I asked for more info was that, (nasty suspicious bugger that I am) I thought that you may have been spamming us. I see now that I was wrong and am glad I didn't delete your post. Hahaha @ slats - no spamming, just joined up to the forum and wanted to start something interesting to talk about!
I just really like the concept of this OS for netbooks so i thought i might as well share my insights with everyone else. In doing that i'd also like to see what other people think of the idea, since i dont think many people know about it, in Australia anyway.
I almost forgot! Found and invitation code for anyone that wants to download Jolicloud in Australia and it pretty easy to remember as well. Invitation code: JOLIAUSTRALIA.
Give it a go - would love to know what everyone/anyone thinks!

Hello all, Just wondering if anyone has given this a go yet? If you have, try the app called "Awdio" its pretty awsome, you can listen to live music from from clubs, live acts, and bars in real time from around the world.

i first tried jolicloud on my ASUS EEE1000HD, was so impressed i have been using it for about 10 weeks now since then i have had it running succesfully on asus eee 701 (4gb ssd version) compaq presario v2000 acer aspire 1690 another random laptop i cant remember and my desktop i7 950,6gb ddr3, ati hd4870 x2, 128gb ssd with dual monitors and a p4 3ghz 1gb ram onboard gfx desdktop i had laying around to run larger/ multiple screens there is a package to enable this the only problem i have had with Jolicloud is the number of people that will download and install an alpha o/s without actually knowing what "Alpha Operating System" means in my opinion it is *very * polished for an new os but to expect perfection (ie no bugs) is unrealistic at this stage the devs are regularly on irc and happy to help people with issues as one of thier main goals is to get thier new o/s running on as many netbooks as possible. to the "meh, it just looks like a shell on unr" they had to start somewhere, they are losing the UNR installer and look soon hanging out for the next lot of updates  yes i'm turning into a Jolicloud fanboi, but i also have machines running xp, ubuntu and windows 7

wow, I kinda thought the OP was spamming too.
guess i was wrong.
I have pretty much stopped using my aspire one. its not really good for anything, regardless of OS.
hey Graet, If it runs well on the netbooks, how does it go with the i7 and ssd?
If it can't be fixed with old fencing wire, buy some new fencing wire...

to be honest it was very clunky at first though the "maximus" package did help the devs also helped me with a package that enabled all "8" cores (4 really + hyperthreading) this helped too ran "pretty well" after that it detected all my hardware ok didnt take the time to try to get tv card working hehe if you consider i was installing a alpha netbook os on an i7/ddr3/ssd ( i didnt even expect it to boot) it ran awseomely  only did it to see if it would run and play cod4 in wine 1st bit was succesful 2nd bit epic fail lol 3rd looked at cagiva 4th booted back into Windows7 i do boot into Jolicloud just to try updates and stuff from the test repository and have a play from time to time, but (even if i didnt want to play games) it does need a little work to be a desktop os with a bit of work i'm sure it would run sweet on the i7,ubuntu does the other thing that has really impressed me is the steps forward *nix has taken with mobile phones as modems and bluetooth, i alsways struggled to get that working(even with usb cable), in jolicloud it was easier than windows!! ( i was stunned then wrapped) i can now run and use a *nix distrubtion soley on my netbook and attain all of the functionality i need from it  Edited by Graet: 18/10/2009 04:33:47 AM

true, *nix has done very well in that department, though i'll asume you mean broadband modems. It still doesn't like dialup softmodems very much.
oh, and I hope you let us know when this jolicloud thing reaches a full release. It sound like it has a lot of potential.

Telstra nextG via nokia n95 phone in pocket, netbook in hand, i'm well connected dialup, i remember that, these days its internet of last resort for me i'll propably pop a post in when the beta comes out, unless the OP beats me

It has a simple interface to let you access as fast as possible your favorite applications and services, this is a fact. You can follow your friends, computers or brands and receive automatic suggestions for new software, features or updates, this is a fact. It is worth it
