Hey Can anyone suggest a really good DVD to AVI (DivX format) Converter. I would like to put heaps of my DVDs on my Media Center and save a bit of space by using 700mb AVI's instead of 6 or 7GB dvds =)

DVDShrink is a nice, easy, free piece of software. Otherwise I'd suggest checking out http://www.cdfreaks.com/software/ they've got some pretty good software suggestions and I believe a few guides to get the best out of the software too.

the best one I have actually seen is Divx's own encoder called DivX Converter - you can buy DivX pro package for a tiny $19.95, it includes DivX Converter where you can literaly drag and drop your vob files in and it will export it out as a DIVX file avi file - it even has settings as to how big you want the file, quality, resolution etc - I don't usually buy software like this but for the excellent video and audio quality of this tool, it is definately worth $19.95! http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/converter/

Never buy Divx/XviD Convertors mate, there are plenty of open source apps out there with far better systems than the paid for stuff. For an easy conversion use 'FairUse Wizard Lite' (Google it) this is an easy and very good system, you can find tutorials for it on: http://www.videohelp.comAlso getting more advanced is Auto Gordian Knot (AutoGK), but allows you to make bigger than 700mb files (1400mb) and some better sound preferences. You will need DVD Decrypter to rip your DVD to your HD before turning into an AVI/DivX, which is also free. Note: DivX (paid version) - XviD (freeware opensource version) BOTH work the same on DivX Players Standalone and your Media Center, so instead of springing for DivX Pro, just go with the free download for the codecs and encode with XviD or DivX (using the free version with the programs above - it all works in the background). Hope this is more helpful. If you need any tips with Video Encoding or Ripping just let me know.

I tried many of the suggestions listed here but always found I was trading between the 3 demons of quality, ease of use and processing time. Then I bought a new video card from asus wich had a copy of AVIVO video converter bundled with it. Its the best that I have found so far. Simplest to use, produces best quality possible and is reasonably quick.
Good luck. Thorfinn

I own a Aimersoft DVD ripper which support most of the popular video formats and with useful editing features. You can free download it to have a try. Edited by lazerer: 7/10/2008 05:13:57 下午
