it's about time Sony (Australia especially) realised there's so much competition around providing better value.

you can buy this same laptop for US$499 and given our rapidly approaching dollar parity and price of AU$599 is probably where this should be pitched.

this laptop isn't alone though. The over-priced PSP Go is being caned in the US for being US$249 and here we get whacked with AU$449.

Someone should seriously buy the guys at Sony a new calculator! Perhaps they want their products to be elitist and aspirational. Or more likely, marked down quitely at their Clearance Centres (yes, these laptops have been sold off cheaper at special prices there).

So, the last big name has fallen. HP gave out in April 2008, and both Dell and Toshiba's resistance crumbled by the autumn. But it's taken Sony until the middle of 2009 to produce what it confesses to be a netbook, the VAIO Mini W Series.
