You gonna run an OS on that? might pay to include that in the price. And if you intend to put 6 Gig of ram in I would suggest Win7_64.

If it can't be fixed with old fencing wire, buy some new fencing wire...

Hmm, I'll fix it up for you. I'm assuming you're a gamer? Where are you getting the prices from?

I'm a 'relapsing' gamer so to say, haven't had a decent PC in quite some time though. Yes i will be running an OS on the machine (lol), i did not include it in the price because 'just to get me started' i was going to use Ubuntu KK, i didnt mention in this post but i need a pc asap, which is why im doing a 'budget' build with upgrade potential for when i want to start gaming and doing video/audio/image editing and HDTV recording.

*EDIT* I am getting my prices from Centrecom, is there a better place?

*EDIT* also i have heard that there is no need for 10k hard drives these days as the denser platters on the 7.2k work out faster? yay or nay?

Fair enough.
There isn't really any need for a 10Krpm HDD. If you really want to improve performance in that area the inclusion of a solid state drive would make a fair difference. another advantage of that is you could add it later.
I've heard MSY has some good prices, and I personally like scorptec.

As you're building the system from scratch I assume you'd qualify for the OEM version of win 7. It's massively cheaper than the new install version so it might be worth your while to re-evaluate your decision to buy it later.

As I understand it win 7 ultimate and pro come with XP running in a virtual machine out of the box for those old programs that don't like vista or 7.
Here's some OEM prices

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

Ask questions. There's no such thing as a stupid one, just stupid answers. (mostly)

StaticIce is a better retail search engine: http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=windows+7+professional+64+oem&spos=3

Most people would be happy with Home Premium. I'll see about designing you a system later today.

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 - $239.00
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R - $156.00
GPU: 1GB 4890 ASUS - $229.00
Memory: 4GB Kit DDR3 1866 G-Skill Ripjaws - $135
PSU: Antec EarthWatts 650W - $124
HDD: Western Digital 1TB 7200RPM - $99.00
Case: Antec Two Hundred - $63

Total: $1045 @ MSY

This system has a much better GPU, double the RAM at a higher speed, and a higher quality PSU. I've downgraded the motherboard since it's not important to have the extra features it offers. I've removed the Velociraptor because they're not worth the money. You're much better off saving for an SSD drive. Which one? An OCZ Vertex is what I'd be getting.
