Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's set to boot off CD? Vito Cassisi: Tech Blog

when the computer boots up hit F10 until it displays the BIOS Utility from there navigate to startup items (or something similar) and make sure CD-ROM drive is 1st in the priority order, when this is done save and exit the utility. if that doesnt work look at your boot disk maybe it wasnt made properly. hope this helps !

it didn't work. when i switch it on the first thing that comes up is - 65536 kb ok. then it says no os found. insert os setup disk and push any button. i hit f10 while it was starting up and it didn't make any difference. i tried some other f buttons and esc as well and nothing happened. what can i try??

Gedday Harvey. I to am afflicted with a Compaq Armada. I'd say your best bet is a boot floppy with CD sport. i had a similar problem as I recall when I changed the hard drive in mine and loaded win 98. I seem to recall something about a hidden partition on the original hard drive that's needed to get into the bios settings.
Get yourself a win 98 boot disk with CD support of the interwebs, there are heaps of them out there, boot from it then run set-up from your CD.
Let us know how you go.
Cheers, Slatts.

The floppy will give you an environment that will let you access the cd rom drive. from there you can run the setup program on the floppy to install your OS of choice.
