Microsoft denies phone plans

Microsoft denies phone plans
Executive quashes rumours.

Microsoft has denied reports it will manufacture its own smartphones following the launch of its home-built Surface tablet.

The company last week revealed its long-awaited entry to the tablet market, unveiling two devices that will run versions of its forthcoming Windows 8 operating system.

Microsoft yesterday told InformationWeek that despite the recent announcement, the firm had no plans to apply the same strategy to its smartphones.

"We have a strong ecosystem of partners that we are very satisfied with," Microsoft's Windows Phone marketing manager Greg Sullivan told the publication.

Microsoft will instead rely on handsets built by partner companies like Nokia, HTC and Huawei to drive Windows Phone 8 forward.
