Toshiba today announced three new additions to its Android tablet fold: the 7.7in AT270, 10.1in AT300 and 13.3in AT330.
All three models have AMOLED displays finished with Corning Gorilla Glass, along with NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad core processors, 16GB of storage and 1GB memory running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
They also come with a variety of connectivity options, including Bluetooth, USB 2.0, Micro SD and HDMI (AT300 and AT330 only).
Toshiba AT330: 'coffee table' tablet
Of the new trio of tablets, the most interesting is undoubtedly the 13.3-inch AT330, which currently boasts the largest screen of any standalone tablet on the market. With a native resolution of 1600x900 pixels, the AT330's widescreen LED display is clearly aimed at people wanting to watch movies.
Other highlights include a four-speaker stereo sound system, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, an SD memory card slot for additional storage and a Micro HDMI port.
A list of key specifications are below:
- Aluminium silver finish
- 13.3in HD screen
- Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) platform
- NVIDIA Tegra T30S processor
- 1GB memory
- 16GB storage
- 1600x900 screen resolution
- 16:9 aspect ratio
- 343 x 211x 9mm
- 998g
- Stereo speakers
- 5.0M rear camera and 2.0M front facing camera
- Micro HDMI port
- Micro USB port
- Micro SD slot
- Bluetooth V4.0 + EDR
We think it's interesting to see yet another form factor enter the overcrowded tablet market - but is 13.3 inches too big for its own good? It's somewhat telling that Toshiba is describing the device as a "coffee table accompaniment". Once we get hold of a review unit, we'll let you know it handles.
The Toshiba AT330 will be available from "late June" and retails for $699.
Toshiba AT300: 'office' tablet
Next up is the Toshiba AT300, a 10.1in tablet in the mould of the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The AT300 shares many features with the AT330, including the same four-speaker stereo sound system, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, Micro HDMI port. However, it comes with a slightly slower T30SL processor.
According to Toshiba, the AT300's 'Adaptive Display' technology allows it to automatically adjust brightness to suit changing lighting conditions.
AT300 specifications are below:
- Aluminium silver finish
- 10.1in HD screen
- Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) platform
- NVIDIA Tegra T30SL processor
- 1GB memory
- 16GB storage
- 1280x800 screen resolution
- 16:10 aspect ratio
- 260x178x8mm
- 590 grams
- 8 hours of battery life
- Stereo speakers
- 5.0M rear camera and 2.0M front facing camera
- Micro HDMI port
- Micro USB port
- Micro SD slot
- Bluetooth V3.0
According to Toshiba, the AT300 is designed for users who want to be productive in the office. The above specifications seem reasonable for the asking price - but will it offer enough to stand out from the rest of the 10in crowd? Time will tell, we guess.
The Toshiba AT300 will be available from "late June" and will retail for $539.
Toshiba AT270: "on the go" tablet
If you prefer the seven-inch tablet form factor like our editor Nic Healey, you'll be pleased to know that Toshiba has not forgotten you. The AT270 is a "pocket sized" 7in tablet that has been designed to fit in the palm of your hand.
It measures 7.85mm at its thickest point and weighs in at 350 grams. Nevertheless, it comes with many of the same features as its bigger siblings.
Like the AT330 and AT300, it boasts haptic feedback technology, which allows the user to choose how strongly or softly they want the navigation indication to be.
Here's a list of key specifications:
- Aluminium silver finish
- 7.7n screen
- Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) platform
- NVIDIA Tegra T30SL processor
- 1GB memory
- 16GB storage
- 1280x800 screen resolution
- 16:10 aspect ratio
- 204x135x7mm
- 350 grams
- 8 hours of battery life
- Stereo speakers
- 5.0M rear camera and 2.0M front facing camera
- 1x micro USB port
- Micro SD slot
- Bluetooth V3.0
Of the three Toshiba tablets announced today, the AT270 perhaps looks the most promising. We liked Toshiba's previous 7in tablet, the AT1S0, which scored a respectable 4-out-of-6 stars in our review. The addition of Tegra 3 quad core processing and Android 4.0 OS will hopefully see it run rings around its predecessor.
The Toshiba AT270 will be available from "late June" and will retail for $539.
