N.O.V.A 3 – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance ($7.49)

If your budget doesn't stretch to a PlayStation Vita but you want console-like gaming on the go, try the latest installment of N.O.V.A. It looks fantastic and offers a big sci-fi storyline plus multiplayer battles with up to 12 players. We just wish we could mow down those in-app purchases.

Hiragana Pixel Party (Free)

If this isn't the definition of "super-mega-fun" we don't know what is. Tap to the chip-tune rhythm to avoid your silhouette bumping into obstacles while you learn how to recognise Japanese characters. Boring language classes could soon be a thing of the past.
