Discuss: How much would you pay for Windows 8?
Microsoft's next OS is just around the corner. How much are you willing to pay for it?

If you downloaded the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, you'll already have an idea of some of the changes in store, including the controversial UI with its emphasis on smartphone-style apps and touch integration. (You can read an overview of the different Windows 8 Editions here.)

One piece of the puzzle that has yet to fall into place is pricing: just how much will it cost to board the Windows 8/Metro train? What will be the upgrade path for Windows 7 users? How much will it cost?

These are questions that Microsoft continues to keep close to its chest. However, it was recently reported by SuperSite for Windows that in the US (though not announced by Microsoft) that the cost of upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro could be as little as US$15 during the pre-release promotional period. According to the reports, this offer is expected to kick off in June to coincide with the release of the Windows 8 Release Preview.

The promotion aside, it got us thinking about Windows pricing in general. Moving from Windows Vista to Windows 7 cost between $199 and $429 (for the Home Premium and Ultimate Editions, respectively). Compare that to Apple's OSX Lion, which costs $31.99.

We'd like to hear your thoughts on the price of Windows 8. How much would you be willing to pay for the new OS? Let us know in the comments section below.
