HP sets sights on "consumerisation of IT"
The new HP Elitebook Folio laptop shows that you don't have to ditch your brick of a business laptop when the work day ends.

Speaking at the HP Global Influencer Summit Keynote speech, James Mouton Senior Vice President Personal Computing Global Business Unit, spoke about the “consumerisation of IT” and its effects on HPs design philosophy.

The BYOD (bring your own device) phenomenon has mainly centered around smartphones and tablets, with IT departments raising concerns regarding compliance issues and the security of such a device being on a business network.

According to IDC’s Bryan Ma, BYOD is being driven by executives at a senior level based on the “desirability” of devices previously regarded as being for consumers only.

Mouton took the opportunity to announce HP’s Elitebook Folio 9470m, a business Ultrabook that the company refers to as “no compromise" in terms of its workplace functionality.

The 9470m has a 14in screen, weighs 1.58 kg and has a thickness of 19mm, but still offers a wide array of connectivity options for business users, including optional built- wireless WAN, full-sized Ethernet, VGA, DisplayPort and USB 3.0 connections.

Perhaps of even more use to the workplace is the optional “slice battery” adaptor which can provide a battery life of up to 20 hours.

No pricing or Australian availability was announced, although the 9470m is expected to be available from October this year.
