OCZ’s RevoDrive went straight to the top of the A-List last year. It is perhaps fitting then that the drive to finally outperform it is its direct descendant.
The RevoDrive 3 x2 is the latest in OCZ’s line of PCI-E x4 SSDs, and it packs quite a punch indeed. In AS SSD we saw it top out at 436MB/s read and 427MB/s writes in the 4K-64thrd tests – the older RevoDrive 2 scored below this with 427MB/s reads and 304MB/s writes in the same benchmark.
In many ways this is what was expected – PCI-Express SSDs aren’t shackled by SATA bandwidth and OCZ’s use of RAID arrays makes the most of this. We are also impressed that this generation of RevoDrive features proper support for TRIM and Garbage collection functions, thanks to the inclusion of new technology called VCA 2.0.
Yet again, if you want the fastest SSD performance you can get (and don’t mind paying a premium), the RevoDrive 3 X2 is hard to go past – even if it is overkill for mere mortals.
