It looks like Valve – the genius games company behind Half Life and Portal – is getting into the hardware market, following the appearance of a job posting for a hardware engineer on its official site. Valve was rumoured to be creating a Steam Box console, before it hastily debunked the idea – but now it looks like the company's definitely moving towards creating its own hardware.
The post reads, "Join our highly motivated team that's doing hardware design, prototyping, testing, and production across a wide range of platforms." And the best bit? "We're not talking about me-too mice and gamepads here – help us invent whole new gaming experiences."
So it’s pretty clear where the company is going, and the words of its marketing director that stated, “it's a long way from Valve shipping any sort of hardware,” were a little bit of misdirection. With Valve doing research into biometric feedback and new controller designs, this is very exciting news.
Perhaps that Portal gun replica will be more than just a toy soon?
