Product brief: Samsung SSD 830 Series, class-leading performance at a price
The Samsung SSD 830 Series boasts blistering read and write speeds, but it's not the best-value SSD on the market.

Samsung has pulled out all the stops for its latest internal SSD, the 830 Series. Built entirely in-house, it crams a proprietary triple-core ARM9-based controller and 256GB of 20nm toggle-mode DDR NAND flash into an aluminium shell that’s only 7mm thick.

Samsung promises class-leading performance, with read and write speeds of 520MB/sec and 320MB/sec. It’s right to be confident. While a sequential read speed of 492MB/sec in our synthetic benchmarks is only 13MB/sec behind the fastest SSDs we’ve tested, the sequential write speed of 390MB/sec puts the 830 Series way out in front, at almost 30% faster.

Granted, it can’t claim to be the best-value SSD on the market. The number of models available is growing every month, and there are a number of budget drives out there to satisfy those who don’t want to pay a premium. However, for those who value performance above all else, the Samsung SSD 830 Series is a fine choice.
