Prices revealed: iiNet will charge $49.95 for entry to NBN
Some customers on the NBN will benefit from "10 times the quota" for the same price, says iiNet.

When ISPs upgrade their plans it can be like Christmas come early. Now iiNet is upping the data limit by 10 times for its customers switching to the NBN.

The ISP today revealed how much its customers will pay to use the fibre network, with plans offering much more data on the NBN for the same price or less than ADSL.

The starting price for entry to the NBN will be $49.95 with iiNet, which give you 40GB. iiNet doesn’t do an ADSL plan this cheap, if you take into account the monthly cost of the required telephone service.

So how does iiNet's cheapest ADSL2+ plans compare? On the NBN you'll get 200GB of data for $59.95 at 12Mbps, compared with 20GB at ADSL2+ speeds for the same price including a telephone service.

With iiNet, you'll pay $79.95 for 200GB if you take into account the telephone service cost. The same price will get you 1TB on the NBN at 12Mbps.

There are some things to keep in mind: iiNet's NBN quotas are split between peak and offpeak, and uploads count towards your limit. All the entry level plans have 12Mbps download speeds and 1Mbps upload speeds.

Still, iiNet's NBN prices (see the plans here) are a better deal than the ISP's existing bundled ADSL prices.

To take advantage of the NBN's greater speeds, iiNet users will pay an extra fee each month, as seen in the table above.

It's also a lot cheaper than Internode's NBN prices, which start at $59.95 for 30GB at 12Mbps. With iiNet, a 1TB plan at 100MBps download speeds and 40MBps uploads will cost $189.95, compared with $99.95 at iiNet.

While iiNet splits its data quotas between peak and off-peak periods, Internode does not. Both ISPs quote downloads and uploads towards limits on NBN plans.
