The original Myst was an enormously popular hit for all ages (no pun intended!), and a regular succession of sequels has continued to tap into a solid fan base. In Myst IV: Revelation, Ubisoft is taking a gamble that spicing up the trademark lack of action and offering some help during the tough bits will broaden the game's appeal. From what we've seen, things are coming along very nicely and Revelation has lost none of the atmosphere and depth that attracted us to the series in the first place.

Revelation brings some interesting new ideas, including a camera to record important information and a far more dynamic general interface. The machinery looks as impressive as ever, and the new graphics engine brings the already stunning vistas into even sharper definition. The story looks set to answer many of the questions left hanging from the earlier editions, and a few new mysteries should keep everyone's interest. Myst IV: Revelation should prove to be a worthy heir to a great franchise - just in time for Christmas.
