As a business projector, the EP-731 is quite good. While resting just below average in our tests, it showed some strength in data projection, as well as a reasonably high score for DVD playback.

As a business projector, the EP-731 is quite good. While resting just below average in our tests, it showed some strength in data projection, as well as a reasonably high score for DVD playback. Its letdowns were bright black levels, plus some less-than-subtle colour graduations, particularly with high-contrasting colour combinations.

Specification-wise, the Optoma wasn’t too bad, with a high 1,500:1 contrast ratio and 1,100 Ansi lumens. The picture was certainly visible even with a modicum of ambient light, but this was more down to the contrast levels than the brightness.

For use in the office the EP-731 comes with a D-Sub pass-through, and was one of the quieter, cooler running units.
