Great for charging batteries in a pinch, but it’s a little too much to pay for the privilege.

The Super Quick Charger from Sony is not the most esoteric or exciting of products, but it is one that could prove to be a Godsend in a sticky situation.
The Super Quick Charger from Sony is not the most esoteric or exciting of products, but it is one that could prove to be a Godsend in a sticky situation.

Sony boasts that this new charger can recharge batteries within one hour a practice that would usually overheat, destroy or severely shorten a batterys operating life.

The charger comes bundled with two AA NiMH batteries, and can also charge AAA size and NiCad batteries. The two bundled batteries have a rated life of 13 hours on one charge, but we found after using a Discman that they petered out between 10 and 11 hours. After a one-hour charge, they were good for another ten-hour stretch.

The charger has built-in timers to prevent batteries from overheating, and it can charge up to four at a time. It will also work internationally at 110-240 volts, but considering that you can buy bandoliers of 100 batteries for $10 in select shops, the $80 asking price for this set is rather high.
