This aluminium storage box is a prime candidate for a living-room media network, especially if you need 1TB of storage space.

Network storage devices are getting more intelligent these days, and boxes such as the QNAP TS-119 boast lightning performance and every feature under the sun at ever-cheaper prices.

LaCie's latest 1TB single-disk offering is certainly a looker in its aluminium casing, and it's reasonably quiet too - a prime candidate for a living room media network.

The performance can't match the QNAP, with top read and write speeds of 25MB/sec and 11MB/sec respectively, but there's a good range of features, including backup tools, iTunes and UPnP compatibility, and a BitTorrent downloader.

It's reasonably priced, but with drives such as the 1TB model of the Buffalo LinkStation Live coming in even cheaper, you'll have to be sold on the d2's looks to buy it.
