The cult sci-fi classic is reportedly the inspiration behind a new Web project backed by Blade Runner director Ridley Scott

There's little detail, but reports say Ridley Scott is behind a new project dubbed Purefold, which according to io9 will be a Web series of 5-10 minute episodes.

The exciting bit is the series will be set in the not too distant future, and will be "inspired by" and "based on themes" from the movie (according to this interview).

Not only that, but the content will be released under the Creative Common License, meaning others will be able to play with and remix the episodes.

There's more, including some advertising tie-ins which may have some fans raising their eyebrows. Read the New York Times story here, and the io9 report here.

We've already been impressed by Marvel's motion comics, so we'll be interested to see what comes of Purefold.
