The one thing you can never have too much of is storage, but upgrading a laptop is a tricky task at the best of times. The LaCie Little Big Disk Quadra is less than the size of a Harry Potter book, yet crams in two 500GB 2.5in hard disks.

The disks are arranged in a RAID 0 array for a total capacity of 1TB. With that much hardware inside it’s not surprising that you can’t power it from a USB connection, but on the plus side there are plenty of connection choices.

USB 2 is joined by the 400- and 800-Mbit versions of FireWire, plus an eSATA port. On a USB connection we found that 100MB of large files averaged a speed of over 25MB/sec, making the Quadra a good choice for a mobile photography studio.
