Nintendo working on Wii space issues

Still no external drive, though.

After getting a sound whipping from Wii users because of remarks he made about only 'geeks and otaku' being interested in more storage space in their kid-friendly consoles, Nintendo's Laurent Fischer has admitted that the groundswell of popular opinion has brought about a change of policy.

He told hacks at Gamesindustry.biz that he now realised that there was a very real issue when it came to the Wii's spacial shortcomings.

"We definitely detect that they [gamers] are serious and we know there is an issue in this, so it's something that we're working on," he said, with his tail firmly between his legs, adding, "Definitely there's no plan to issue hardware, an external hard drive, but we know that we have an issue in that area," he added. "It's very obvious and we're perfectly aware of it, but there's nothing we can say beyond this."

The current Wii has just half a gig of flash storage and, since downloadable content started coming online, users have been complaining about running out of space.

How then, Nintendo is planning to address the issue is beyond us. Perhaps some online storage for Wii users to cycle content to and from on board storage?
