Kodak launched the world's first digital camera featuring an OLED display, yesterday in Sydney. The EasyShare LS633 is a standard 3.1 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and 16MB onboard memory, but its 2.2in preview screen is both larger than a normal digital camera LCD, and also features OLED technology over LCD.
OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology is superior to LCD as it is brighter, has sharper colours, greater viewing angles and consumes less electricity than smaller LCDs.
Speaking from Las Vegas, Willy Shih, President of Kodak's Digital and Applied Imaging division said that the LS633 did not herald the end of LCD screens in digital cameras, as the OLED displays will only appear in Kodak's premium range of cameras.
The LS633 will be available in Australia from early April for $899.
