The Logitech VX Nano is the successor to the VX Revolution, which is easily one of the most comfortable laptop mice available. It uses the same laser optics as its predecessor but offers more for laptop users.
The Logitech Nano is symmetrical, making it good for lefties and righties. Because of this, the large arch that made its predecessor so comfortable is gone. The sacrifice in ergonomics means that while it doesn’t have anything on the sheer comfort of the MX Revolution it’s lower, sleeker and fits better into laptop bags. And this is where its trump card lies.
The receiver dongle for the mouse is tiny. Once you plug it into a USB port you’ll have less than half a centimeter of ridged plastic poking out of the computer to grip when you go to remove it. The dongle is so small that you may as well leave it in your laptop, as very little torque can be applied to the short stem and hence the chances of anything horrible happening to your computer during transport are minimal.
The wheel is a curiosity. The gearing system that provides the scroll clicks can be disengaged; and in practice this means that scrolling through thousand page PDFs becomes a matter of spinning the scroll wheel and placing your finger on it again when you see a heading fly past. The gears are engaged and disengaged by middle clicking; and as a result the third button you’d usually use with a click of the wheel is located below it. You can also scroll horizontally by rocking the wheel from side to side. Forward and back buttons are also included on the left of the mouse that step through your Internet history.
Without any drivers installed, the mouse is highly sensitive. It works without complaining under all versions of Windows without complaining, as well as OS X. We opted to disable the inbuilt touchpad in our MacBook Pro whenever the USB mouse was present, which is a case for dongle powered mice over the few Bluetooth mice available. The Nano requires two AAA batteries to run, which are included.
