Canon's IXUS range has been an A-List stalwart for sometime now, but we weren't overly enamoured by the way the last iteration, the IXUS 55, bolted the bulky 2.5in LCD screen onto its predecessor (December 2005, page 64).
With the 65, Canon moves up from five to six megapixels and expands the very-responsive screen to a massive three inches while making it flush with the body. It's a superb package. The controls are even more intuitive (if miniaturised) and it's a dream to use, but be warned that the optical viewfinder is gone.
It's still very responsive with the sharp, 3x optical zoom extending in just one second and continuous shooting seeing two, full-resolution (2816 x 2112) pictures captured per second until the SD card filled up. As before, the automatic sensors seemed incapable of bad exposure in all lighting conditions and the 30fps (640 x 480) video mode offers near DVD quality.
In short, there's still not a compact camera that can touch it. Buy one now.
