Asus has managed to become a serious player in the wireless stage in recent years, with slickly designed products, great firmware and web interfaces, and high performing hardware. Its RT-56U model has occupied our A-List for some time, and the RT-N66U is a more recent iteration that ups 802.11n performance by a noticeable amount. The RT-N66U is an N900 router, capable of running concurrent 450Mbps streams over the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Like all routers of this type, its usefulness will depend upon the number of devices you own that are capable of taking advantage of the 5GHz band, but if you do have such devices it’s a great offering indeed.
We were particularly impressed by the interface used by ASUS, which was both intuitive and powerful. Setup was a breeze, and the extra features like printer sharing are on par with the competition. Add the $200 pricepoint to the feature list and this is a very tempting product.
