USB card readers are taken for granted by many people. The huge growth over recent years in the use of portable media like SD and CF has led to readers becoming commonplace. However some people are now generating huge amounts of data and are finding that the humble USB 2 connection used for most readers just isn’t sufficient.

Transcend's USB 3 Card Reader

Transcend aims to change this with the launch of this unassuming little box, which brings USB 3 to the card reader space. We gave it to our video producer to test, thanks to his constant moaning about how slow transfers off CF cards were. After sucking down HD video files at 80MB/s he jumped straight on the phone and started trying to find a retailer that stocked this little beauty.

It is rare that a device so unassuming as this is so exciting to those it is targetted at, and as long as your PC has USB 3 then this is the reader to get for large data transfers.
