Finding a set of speakers for your portable music device is easy these days. The iPod phenomenon has seen to that. Companies such as Altec Lansing have given us many options for sharing our jukebox tunes with others in the room. Most have disappointing sound quality though, unable to cope when the volume is pushed up.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that there are exceptions to that rule. The Stripy Music Studio speakers look great, and for baby-sized speakers deliver good grunt when the jam is pumped up.
The shiny silver satellites swivel to provide directional control, and dressed up with a glowy purple ring around their waist. The hub features a novel single control button, which handles volume, treble and bass. Pressing the button changes its colour and function. Blue for bass, green for treble and purple for volume.
Buried within the hub is an amp that puts out 9 watts – 4.5 watts RMS per channel. Very respectable for its size. Testing the unit, we dared pump it up to room-filling volumes with some bassy beats and the Music Studios coped effortlessly. External connection is via a standard 3.5mm plug.
Perfect for an office desk, or a hotel room party for travellers, the Music Studios could be the perfect accessory for your portable music. Sony PSP owners may also want to consider these for enjoying movies or games if earbuds aren’t satisfying.
At $99 (RRP) these are excellent value. Get them from www.musicstudio.com.au
