The Optoma H27 is one of the best home theatre projectors we looked at here – it seemed to excel in all of our tests with extremely good colour ranges, plus naturally dark black levels – important for not washing out night time or statically black images, and for keeping shading and contrasted images realistic.
There was no one aspect of this projector that failed to impress, and if there’s any downside it could be argued that its look – although cool – is better suited for a boardroom than a lounge room, but that’s really nitpicking.
In our real-world tests of text, movies, games and general computing the H27 excelled. Legible text is an oddity for a home theatre projector but the desktop and documents we opened were clearly discernible. The image quality of the fast action movie and gaming scenes were great, and there’s a generous image size for the throw distance.
The let-downs though are that the projector is fairly basic specification-wise. This is what has dropped the unit’s scores overall in comparison to the other projectors on review here, impacting not just its feature score but its value for money and final overall score.
The Optoma H27 though seems to be an odd all-rounder of a projector in that it actually excels at all tasks given to it – regardless of its limited feature-set.
