The Gigabyte X800 offering is a strange beast. The accompanying package proclaimed it was a X800 XT PE (Platinum Edition), but further investigation found it to be a standard X800 XT. The difference between the two versions is in clock and memory speeds, where the PE runs slightly faster, and consequently requires additional power. Our first tip off was the lack a 6-pin power connector, and a quick look on Gigabyte's website confirmed this was not a PE but an ordinary X800 XT.
Unfortunately, even as a standard X800 XT, it didn't perform as well as the other XT's on test here. It's certainly a capable card, but if you're after a top performing X800, there a faster options in the round up.
The bundled games are quite decent, with Counter-Strike: Condition Zero; Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising; Thief 3: Deadly Shadows all being good recent games. The last, and most important, consideration here is the price. At $898, this is expensive for a card that performs similarly to the Sparkle 6800GT - but for two hundred dollars more.
