We looked at this phone PDA
last month and we're extremely happy with its performance and results. Wider than a normal phone and encroaching on PDA girth turf, the BlackBerry 7100v is both a capable phone and a capable PDA. The keyboard takes some getting used to however, as it's an amalgam of T9 keyboard and QWERTY keyboard layouts -- it follows the QWERTY format but groups letter to keys necessitating a fair bit of hunting and pecking to find what you're after. Aside from the keypad the main menu interface is accessed off a jog dial and 'backspace' input button.
The display is nicely coloured and legible although sunlight tends to wash the colours out. The menu system and PDA functions are intuitive and easy to use, but the units WAP capabilities leave a little to be desired. It's rudimentary at best.
Otherwise the RIM BlackBerry 7100v is a very capable phone PDA and is very good value at $799. It's bigger than other phones, but nowhere near the
i-mate and
XDA IIs size.
