Placing last overall and in each of the tests we conducted during the roundup, Kodak's Printer Dock Plus, while incredibly handy had some real issues reproducing our test image as it was originally taken. The dock itself is fantastic idea, allowing you to charge and hold your camera and using the LCD on your camera to preview your prints rather than printing an index sheet. Kodak has thought outside the box by also including IrDA support for capturing and printing images from your mobile phone, a nice addition given that these integrated cameras are beginning to become even better.
The same hand that awards points also takes them away with the dock printer lacking cartridges you'll need to replace the thermal transfer in one go, without the option of individual cartridge replacement as required by your chosen printing. Our first print sample had lifeless washed out colours, the sky appearing more purple than blue, this was corrected somewhat with the auto adjustment feature, although the artificial upsampling made the daisies more like sunflowers.
While portable and incredibly easy to use,
Epson seems to offer a much more compelling product at the same price point, making this somewhat hard for us to recommend.
