Although falling slightly below par in our quality testing, the IntelliPro 4000GX managed to claw back points with a score 16 percent above the average for value, primarily due to its incredibly low initial purchase price.
This machine unfortunately features only a single year warranty, only a third of that of many of the other units we received. A strong warranty is a must when it comes to business machines because of their constant usage and the rate of wear and tear. As we didn't impose a price cap this month, we would have much rather seen a system with slightly lower spec or moderately more expensive price tag and the inclusion of a more robust three year or onsite warranty.
On the plus side, this unit is a standard ATX mid-size tower and full-size motherboard with 8x AGP and three free PCI ports - plenty of expansion to be found here. This machine could very easily be expanded and moved to another department or role with just a new graphics card or more RAM. Not that the 512MB of PC3200 DDR RAM included out of the box is anything to scoff at. Getting at the PCs insides isn't a problem either, with the side of the case removing in a single piece, with the accessibility benefiting from thumbscrews, which can be removed with fingers rather than screwdrivers. There's room for another optical drive, just in case you wanted to add a DVD-ROM or DVD burner for business file backup. Another nifty little feature is the side mounting of the hard disk, easily removed from the open side of the case, making swapping out a breeze.
Bundled with this machine you'll also find one of ATI's RADEON 9200 AGP graphics cards with 128MB of DDR memory. This is more than adequate for 2D tasks, and can handle a resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 at a solid refresh rate should you ever decide to upgrade your monitor.
A solidly configured, easily manageable machine well suited to small offices and medium sized businesses on fairly tight budgets, the lack of included software and one-year warranty dampen an otherwise competent PC.
