The D-Link DWL-7000AP is a wireless access point that is friendly towards all 802.11 devices. It's a dual-band/tri-mode wireless device - this means the 7000AP supports all three 'g', 'b' and 'a' standards. If you have one of these, you don't need to worry about what other 802.11 devices you will be using - chances are they'll talk.
Configuring the device is simple - just point the browser to its IP and punch in the password. There is a wizard feature that takes you through the essential configuration choices, but this does not restrict you from the advanced options.
There are separate configuration options for 802.11g and 802.11a, but not for 802.11b. This is because 'b' devices can communicate with 'g' devices, and settings are thus inherited.
Security is a priority here, and while most devices we looked at supported 128-bit WEP, the DWL-7000AP takes it further with 152-bit encryption. Most new 802.11g devices support WPA, and the DWL-7000AP can deal with that too. You get an Ethernet cable with the bundle along with a multi language quick installation guide. The manual itself is on the CD and explores a few good scenarios for troubleshooting.
It's a little on the expensive side, but you'll make a saving on not having to purchase separate adapters for 802.11a and 802.11g/b networks. It's a nice one, and the DWL-7000AP comes with a three-year warranty.
